Chaos Day weekend

was short, the day from the beginning to the end of a mess. I woke up this
was originally full of good things. First of all the Internet does not work (big Minutspunkt). The compensation for this was that the German intern would now arrive at night - even if unbarmherzigerweise clock at 00:30.
The morning dragged on with small tasks as then - then a power failure. So just again wait a few minutes. I had already enjoyed huge thirst for lunch and looking forward to lasagna. Because after a while there was still nothing, I went on break at the cafeteria (in which there was also no electricity), where there were no more lasagna and I had to be content with warm spaghetti. By 14:00 clock electricity again. We had a workshop of the WEEE (Association of Ethiopians Educated in Germany). Just when it should start - power failure again. So the event was held in the shadows in the showroom. I had also invited Mary, but we moved us to an hour. Because of some long past stays in Germany, the event was held in English. Or what is here in part as English. I had invited Maria - but after an hour we were capitulating to the resignation: times understood apart from the speech of the German Ambassador, we just as good as anything. The other Ethiopians, moreover, apparently not - the room was constantly moving, soon had the 1 / 3 (temporarily) evaporated on to the outside.
Extremely nice then that was followed by dinner. The lecturers from the Institute for Education Research "invited me to visit it once, just in case I wanted to take a few documents for my studies. The food of the buffet was great (especially meat and fish again!)
Irgendwann fanden wir uns dann doch wieder zusammen, fuhren zurück and after I had given him even a short briefing Addis (and a few birr notes), I arrived at 3:30 but still sleeping.

Addendum: Rain, rain, rain

are increasingly aware of the irony I to have named my blog "Ethiopian Summer", although here there is actually the time of the Ethiopian winter. Although I was scared away, make a name change to "Ethiopian winter" because geographically would be at least as absurd, I am indeed still in the northern hemisphere - thus is the summer - except that the rainy season (the coldest time here) just means that it is called "winter".
It's Saturday and I'm sitting on my Room. Yes, I am the servant. This time less, because I lust after that because of my laziness, but rather because I was condemned to the weather. Rain is one thing - the relentless pelting, within seconds (and I speak here of not more than 3-5 seconds!) Everything soaking rain that seems to come from all sides (it is really unlikely thick drop) is the one quite another thing! And today I was right to stay in the house and make no sightseeing: The rain was not, as it is usually the case. Or at least was weaker, then the more lively again started. I spend time to read my book finished: "African fever". The author, a Polish journalist and foreign correspondent, describes it, the impressions of his travels in many African countries, including Ethiopia, is represented. Many impressions can I join, some disagree with me (which it certainly is that but a couple of years have passed). Some is clearer to me. Above all, that I was not disappointed the impression that people here go out of another self and world view. A piece of Ethiopian history:
The regime Mengistu was overthrown after 17 years of rule in the summer of 1991 (so this is not so long ago). The leader himself fled to Zimbabwe, where he lingers to this day. At his command were killed over 30 000 people (presumably it was much more, as 100 000 are referred to as "conservative source", others speak of 300 000). Comparatively, one could assume so again, it would be the magnitude of Klagenfurt.
The fate of his army is remarkable is that Mengistu had built south of Moscow with the help of the largest army of the Sahara Africa: 400 000 troops, missiles and chemical weapons. As

Cubefield That Is Not Blocked

Lovely day

My old job had me back (not the large office - but next week I'll occupied again!) And barely I set myself, also began the hunger again, to torment me and then I peeked back over to the chocolate donuts in the cafeteria. The glass front allows me an effective all-round view: In the exhibition space, the classrooms, but most important to the cafeteria and the bar where I see my future lie ready goodies already.
The door opens and a voice of the students come to me: It's a girl in the group, which I held at that time (shame on me) of continuing the lesson. You have obviously taken it amiss. Now comes the rematch: "We're outside ... If you like, you can come and join us! "Repentance is called like me and I let everything (that means anything) and are available to me on a Pläuschchen to join them. Kiya want to go with me to the cafeteria, even after I check quickly whether my boss has to do for me, but that is driven into the German Embassy. So no risk of missing something, the Director is yes still gone. Yeah, if the cat is out of the dance, the mice to chocolate donut and macchiato. He will leave in October to study in Germany.
come for lunch and Maria Allette, we have lunch (quite extensively) and after I've got permission to go early and breastfed both Bayer inside their need for Internet access haben, besuchen wir gemeinsam noch mal das National Museum und verabreden uns für den Abend, ins Coffee House zu gehen, wo live Jazz-Musik gespielt werden soll.
Einige Arbeitskollegen von Maria und Allette gesellen sich zu uns: an Ethiopian, a Jewish American (with German background - studying the way in Tel Aviv) and 4 Maltese. All the doctors, medical students and psychologists. Initially a little skeptical, I note quickly that of "gods in white" could be no question, the evening was just great fun!

The story of the little princes and the great odyssey / The story of the little prince and the great odyssey

a little prince who lived in a country in Europe saw one day out of the window. But what was that? Something disturbed his views. He could not enjoy it more, to look down into the garden. But sharp as he was, the little prince, he quickly found the source of his displeasure. It was the blinds. The curtains were Ships, but because the country had no sea more of the little prince, therefore, no fleet of ships, which showed the curtains voted him so cranky. The curtains had gone so quickly! And replaced by new ones. Where can you but these new curtains? One thing was certain: it has to conduct his exquisite, as the little prince - as befits a prince - a special taste. So he sent his most loyal servant, in the distant countries of Africa for a special material for his curtains to look for so that he could enjoy the view from the window. The servant was still on the same day, the city according to the wishes of the small Prince to explore: the city of North roamed south and from south to east. But this first time he was lucky not to be hold. Moreover, not quite to the point, he let himself be distracted and followed the call of the sirens, the invitation to an art exhibition of the Greeks, which were beyond the always tricky to find. Because it helped the poor servants not to ask people for directions to pull the cards for advice or just at random to the area searching for the mythical place was found and thus the art treasures. The poor servant had failed twice on that day. He had no desire to meet his Lord, the little prince, nor can pursue his own pleasure. Tired and exhausted, because he already had run many miles (of that, in mismatched shoes), he found himself surprised by the dawn and had to go home and start breaking off his search, he went on his way home. The dusk turned into darkness and the darkness of the servants now lost the focus, no longer knew if he went to North, South, East or West noted, only that it was always uphill and downhill. Finally gave up the fight of his feet and boarded the next car home to disengage itself once a night and the next day to continue his search. The car struggled uphill to overcame the undulating ground only with difficulty. As in a boat on undulating sea, he was tossed back and forth. Like a ship that runs aground, it sounded when the underside of the car slipped on the ground again and it seemed almost doubtful if he would take it at all ready to cope with the play, but he made it, as he always manages .
The servant went back to his house, therefore, sat down and began to write his report, which you have now read.

of explanation, which presumably is necessary for some:
- My brother wants new curtains and I've offered me (that is optional!) To look for him here in Addis which
- We have the Goethe Institute invitation of the Greek Association to get an art exhibition. However, the place of issue is difficult to find because no one knows where he is, not level around the guys on the phone and the address of any description also provided (ie very typical!).

I am sorry, but I will not go to translate this to English!
first I likely could not even manage to do it
second You'd think I am crazy!

Ok ... I have to revise what I wrote ... I just received a mail from my cousin and absolutely astounded I found the translation of my entry enclosed (what a surprise!) So here it is ...

One day a little prince, who lived in a country in Europe, looked through the window. But what’s that? Something disturbed his view. He could no longer enjoy looking down on his park. But shrewd, as he was, the little prince made out the reason of his annoyance quickly. The reason was: the curtains. There were embroideries of ships on them. But the country of the little prince had no sea no more. That’s why his country hadn’t the shipping fleet, which the curtains exhibited. That made him disgruntled. The curtains must go! And new one had to take up the empty space!! Quick!!! Where to take from new curtains? The next best? – No. They had to be noble and exquisite, because the little prince had good taste, as it was expected from a prince. So he sent his most devoted servant in the far away countries of Africa to look for a special cloth for his curtains. With it he would be able to enjoy the view down his park again.
The servant reached a large city in Africa and found a nice accommodation. Shortly afterwards she started to explore the city to do justice to the wish of her little master. But she had no luck on the first day. One reason for her failure was the call of the sirens, which were also in town. They sang about their riches, about the treasure, which they brought with them from Greece. But in a malicious way the servant couldn’t reach the place where the sirens were singing. The poor servant read the map and asked the citizens. She roamed the city from North to South, from West to East. But the mystic place she couldn’t find. In the end she failed twice. Neither she was able to fulfil the wish of the little prince, nor could she satisfy her own desire.
Suddenly the tired and exhausted servant, who had covered many miles this day (and that with lousy footwear), was caught by the dusk. So she had to quit her search and tried to find the way back to her accommodation. But between dusk and dawn there is darkness. Cause of the darkness the servant lost the orientation. She didn’t know no longer if she was going to South, North, East or West. That she went downhill and uphill was the only thing she made out. Finally she gave up the fight against her feet and got on a vehicle. “Tomorrow I will find what I’m looking for”, she thought. What she needed now was a rest. The vehicle tormented itself uphill, got over the wavy ground barely. The servant felt like a traveller on a ship over waves. The vehicle seemed to be a ship, which runs aground, when the underside touched the ground. It was doubtful, if the vehicle would surmount the next earth wave. But it surmounted it, how it had surmounted the one before. The servant came back to her accommodation, sat down and started to write the story, which you have finished to read yet.
(special thanks to my cousin Andi for this translation!!!)

Dort waren die beiden ein little disappointed because Piazza is also known as "Old Town", but really offered no special features (architecture, culture, nature ...). In addition, Mary also shares my feelings, probably by the light wind that blows as often, caused "the look of, as there would begin somewhere behind the sea". Unfortunately, there is only mist.
We thought about going to the movies and took a coffee in one dinner.
To our disappointment, we learned in the 3 cinemas, we scouring that the English movies are played each morning. In the end, we stood near the monument Derg before the Ambassador Cinema, our totally untwisted Rastafari fan and Izi leader was arrested by the police on its side. No idea why, maybe because the had noticed his enthusiasm and with the Rastafarians is one thing that ... (See following information). He came from the area - he told us. And at some point, the police caught him and then they cut off his hair. The police then wanted to be, I think, bring us to the side, but that was just as Maria losstartete have to move on, so we went off again - and then running after us is no.
We went into a pub in the next nearest Ambassador Park and sat at a table outdoors, surrounded by palm trees and when it is dark and a little fresh, is lit behind us in an open fire oven and already is getting warmer.
Then we connect the home to take this time thank God, its still mini buses.

Rastafarians
Ras Tafari, Emperor Haile Selassie crowned in 1930, gained his knowledge without a large following in Jamaica, where Marcus Garvey a "Return to Africa" movement was founded. This saw the coronation as a fulfillment of biblical prophecy "kings will come out of Africa". With their passionate identification with the monarch and the unanhängigen Ethiopian state, they founded a new religion, was awarded in the divinity of the emperor and should bear his name earlier.
The emperor himself, a little confused about the process, admitted them, but to the country in 1963.
For Rastafarians is ganja (marijuana) as a sacrament, they also expect to be the restoration of the monarchy. The Ethiopian-Eritrean war they see as punishment for the murder of their God-chosen emperor.
To date, no Ethiopian government Rastafarians (and their children born in Ethiopia) granted citizenship.

Cultural Names For Fest

joins DC and a feather flock together - the "small Alpine republic" (Bavaria-Salzburg) in Ethiopia

opened new week. As expected, I woke up on time: just after sunrise, shortly after 6:00 clock. So not so bad that I have an alarm clock anymore.
Back in the office my boss I was overjoyed to have received some emails and answer them to. As ever passed some time. Moreover, the librarian had mercy on me, after he heard that I'm going to its next reading in early September no longer be there, he gave me "with interest" the short story by Arthur Schnitzler. I was pleased total - a literary suggestion! And in addition began immediately to refresh my knowledge of the internet and Arthur Schnitzler of write (yes, there it looks right? I am trying so right to be self-productive!). I also put my own little short story for my dear little brother finished, I put to him today then sent through the post.
Thus passed the time until noon then finally amazingly fast! Lunch: I had hardly Birr (equivalent to about 1 €). So I wanted to quickly Arat Kilo to change money. What's in the end be not that easy turned out: I went to the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia . There, they told me me, they change any money. I went to the bank. No, the switch no money. There remained the third bank there (also a Commercial Bank of Ethiopia ) and I almost wanted to ask: "Let me guess - you're not changing money either!. But I was lucky. After I was checked and make my camera at the entrance had to (which I got a brand), I was admitted into the sacred temple of Mammon. The first priest referred me over to his brother in faith. The was escorted me back further, to the next temple floor in the rear corner of the homage "Foreign currency". The brother then had me fill out the application. Name, address in Ethiopia and also the same phone number to do so. I felt like it wrote down the numbers that the Holy Spirit whispered to me, but I was not sure whether he meant prophecies gut aufnehmen würde, würde er sie nachprüfen.
Medizinstudentinnen in Innsbruck, ebenfalls für ein Praktikum (Mutter Theresa organization) here a month, until the night arrived. They laughed and said pretty much, I look so happy to have me back to German. I think I've become quite red and said it was so great as well, simply nice to be able once again to talk "normal". And with the Bavarians I better at least do not hide my accent and speak High German, so I'll understand. We agreed to meet again tomorrow to eat lunch together and I promised to check times, whether in Addis at the time any events are worth visiting.
in the back office, I continued to write emails. Before I knew it was already 16:00 clock, but since I was a verlängerte Mittagspause hatte und außerdem noch nicht nach Hause wollte, blieb ich noch eine Stunde.

A new week just begun. What a luck that it really works: I woke up (without my alarm of course as my mobile is broken). Went to work and occupied the office of my boss, who’s not here these days.
Jonas from the library was merciful and gave me a short story of Athur Schnitzler to read. I was really happy and made some researches on the internet to refresh my knowledge about this author. Sent some mails and finished the little story I wrote for my brother, which I am going to send him today. Noon came so soon!
I grabbed my things and went to Arat Kilo to get some money changed, as my Birr were just around 1 € anymore. I entered the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia . No, they don’t change money. Strange, strange. Ok. Next one. No, no changing. Haaa??? What’s that??? I am not trying to convince them to accept Lira! I just want to get some Euro changed! I already thought all my hope was lost as I went to the other Commercial Bank of Ethiopia . But I had luck. After they checked me and I left my camera at the entrance, I was allowed to enter the temple. The first priest sent me to a second one who guarded me one floor up, where in a corner the priest for “foreign currency” was waiting for pilgrims. I did him the honour to fill out the papers, which asked for my name, address and phone number. For one moment I thought about putting the numbers and letters to paper, the holy spirit whispered… but I was not sure, if he’d like my prophecies if he’d proof it. He gave me a token and sent me to the Guru, the guardian over the sacrificed I should face soon. I waited meditating for about half an hour before I was allowed to step in front of him. Then it all happened so fast, I received my Birr and left the temple (after getting my camera back) happily praising the livestock in my hands.
Went to the post, sent some letters to my brothers, granny and a postcard to a friend in Salzburg before returning to the institute. I was a little late and amazed as I found my boss in her office. I suggested to “wait outside” and went to the cafeteria where I ordered a double macchiato again plus a chocolate-donut (yummy!). There had been two girls, I heard them talking in German and went over to them, started talking to them. Oh, how nice: 2 Bavarians, studying medicine in Innsbruck, also here for an internship for one month, just arrived this night. They laughed and told me that I look quite happy to meet Germans again. I went red and told them that it’s pretty great here, but it’s also pleasant just to talk German as I am used to it again, without hiding my dialect and speaking “Hochdeutsch” for the people to understand it. For Bavarians this is not necessary – we’re all from the same corner. We arranged to go for dinner tomorrow and went back to work. Where I continued my mail-communication.

Termination Of Time Share

going out, visiting museums and Ethiopia's largest cathedral

Friday 20 July 2007
Our Director left for Johannesburg and because I was not feeling well, was to do nothing anyway, moreover, I asked if I could go, which was also granted me the same. Actually I wanted to buy the fastest way a bit to eat and go home, into bed and sleep. But the day turned out differently:
Elias asked if we go to a coffee (well, a coffee) then we met Elisa, the Norwegian who now moved out of her room at the hotel. So we went with her and helped her with the statement. Then I went to the Elias Lime Tree House in Bole for lunch. I ate a serving of spinach ravioli with tomato sauce - so light food and in fact I felt better soon. So I arranged with Elias in the evening with American friends to go away from him.
So I did my shopping, drove home, relaxed a little and ate again before I set off to in order to meet Elias at 19:00 on the clock AratKilo . We went to Bole, in a very chic restaurant and as we sat outside the atmosphere reminded me of the road with their lights and almost to Italy. Shortly after, the first American joined us, a teacher who taught for half a year in Addis on one of the schools of English. A little later arrived, the two American women, whose stay reason a placement at the UN is. In fact, a lot going on in the streets and it offered many opportunities to go out and comfortable stay in really nice places. When the others moved on
finally in a jazz club, and I passed the Americans and drove home. He, because he does not feel like the jazz club and I had because I had told my landlord I will not come back too late.

Saturday 21 July 2007
Because I was the week had to do at work, unfortunately, not very much, I got a guilty conscience, by the internship grant provided funds "not to use properly, so I took my training in their own hands and tried (as a cultural science student is actually obligatory anyway), the two" major "museums of: Ethnological Museum at the University Campus and the National Museum. How often in museums and this time I was a bit skeptical about what to expect, but I took a guide to low ticket prices I let myself out, and kept in mind easy, fast abzuhaun again, it should not put up with.
First, then, the Ethnological Museum: After entering the campus, you find yourself in a park with palm trees, tropical plants and flowers, roses, walkways with stone slabs, leading past a fountain and behind it, at first glance through the lush vegetation almost not visible, the former palace of Haile Selassie, whose first floor houses the Ethnological Museum . The aesthetic demands of the eye is here fully done enough of that! A beautifully decorated museum space! I enter the first section of the museum, in which childhood is treated. To my delight, found there in addition to wooden toys and clay figures (although our match Assiziationen with Africa, but I have not seen in children in use - perhaps more to the country), the witty play area, die meist aus Draht gefertigt irgendwie den Sinn haben, Reifen durch die Gegend zu rollen (so ganz hab ich das noch nicht durchblickt), oder Bälle – aus Stoff oder Verpackungssackerl gefertigt. They have the following structure: In the middle is the hero who has died. His wife (or women) then next to him left and right and then next to statues that represent the enemies who killed the hero. In addition there when our hero was a great hunter, animals before, and, to round out the picture nicely, spears and shields beside and behind the crowd. Sometimes even small stones can be found in front of this cute Assembly, which will designate the land of the deceased.
from that visit was very positive I still equal then the National Museum before in which the replication of Lucy (Australopithecus afarensis) zu bewundern ist, die 1974 in Afar gefunden wurde und deren zu 40 % erhaltenes Skelett auf ein Alter von 3,2 Mio Jahren datiert wird.
Zusammenfassend: Mit dem heutigen Tag, den Museum visits and my own initiative on cultural development, I am completely satisfied!

Sunday 22 July 2007
the morning I set out with my landlord after Bole in order to drink a coffee. We walk through the residential area of \u200b\u200bthe rich and Dioplomaten - oohh ... there are small palaces! Nice, nice! A man comes towards us, shouting something that I do not quite what I want and turn on from its box. I understand his "Puppy, puppy!" Until I see in the box, sitting in the 2 very small, really cute puppies! Ooohhhh, no ... my sore point!
THE topic of conversation, everyone talks like this, everyone is happy celebrated (and drink) will be for days. "The newspapers," they explained to me "are now being sold again, had been set for their arrest. Now that people have been released, these newspapers are available again! It is a good step in the government, but who knows how to go from here? They had the people probably never released without the pressure of the EU again ... "Apparently came from Europe by a minister repeated demands the release of political prisoners. We went a little farther, passed a cycling race, in another cafe, which is particularly gute French Fries offeriert. „Oh schau! Schau!“, sagt meine Vermieterin „Eine typisch äthiopische Hochzeit! Sie läuft streng . After Zerimoniell from "At first I thought, since the same two priests were appointed, until I realize that this is the couple: both dressed in long white robes, slung a white jacket with a subtle Goldbestickung and both a type of white crown with silver ornaments and cross on their heads. Are surrounded by singers, half of them dark red, weißgeschärpte clothes, the other half turquoise, weißgeschärpte clothes wearing, one goes before the bridal couple and beats the drum, the singers go left and right, beautiful arranged in a row beside, behind follows the Rest of the society. All singing and clapping. Ethiopia shows its colors: the white cathedral with gold ornaments and turquoise copper roof, illuminated by the sun, the colors of the wedding party and run in the background, becoming darker and darker by the approaching storm. We are on the way home, to not be wet. And lo and behold, I get to add something special to see: Have the end, even going Ethiopians. The attractive storm brings life into it, everything scurries around, trying to get home, a bus minibus or taxi to catch. The mini bus drivers are adapting to the increased demand: Already we are sitting - 21 people instead of the usual 12 - squeezed together (I have counted's!!) in one of these great companion Toyota, which is struggling uphill after Aware . "How could still get out there who can?" I wonder when I see that one clearly is attempting to sit for a short talk with other passengers remains. My landlady laughed and I get the explanation: Yes, he wanted to get out, said he had to get out, but the others said, no, no, ... we are not there ... that's where you want to go come, first ! So he remained seated obediently and went a step further, as two others who had also wanted out. That's just not all that right here.

Vocabulary Workshop Level E Answers

so ... I for eh Yesterday I wrote so much, I'll take that as an excuse to write again today, a skinny report ... After the weekend he is already getting longer.
Our Institute director leaving today for Johannesburg, and we are eagerly awaiting assignments:-D
was shopping yesterday - did the city but underestimated somewhat. In the South (Southeast) active construction projects, many large glass buildings that sprout like mushrooms in the sky - of course with the distinctive wooden scaffolding everywhere.
Sooo ... I find it more anyway not at the moment ... To do so are also still nothing that brought me an early weekend start - so goodbye daweil until Monday (when I turn to another Übersiedle office because none of my two bosses is there, and there then "hold position") :-)

Oh yes, one more important addendum:
My phone stopped working since yesterday. So, other than comic flash (which then does not stop until I pull the battery) does nothing more: - / Klumpert ....
